Flavor: Medium-bodied, As Pontis Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil is fruity and buttery. This olive oil has an excellent balance of ripe olive fruit, bitter and pepper and a hint of thyme.
Uses: As Pontis is great for every day use—in salad dressings and vinagrettes, for drizzling and even baking. Make a simple fruit salad of orange slices, honey and As Pontis Extra Virgin Olive Oil. As Pontis also make a great aioli and excels as a dipping oil and as a vehicle for poaching fish and seafood.
About the Producer: Almazara As Pontis was founded by brothers Carlos and Miguel Carrasco in the Sierra de Gata region of Extremadura, Spain. In the local Fala dialect, As Pontis means “The Bridges”, referring to the ancient stone masterpieces constructed by the Romans in that region. As Pontis Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil is made exclusively of hand-harvested olives from old, indigenous Manzanilla Cacereña trees on the Carrasco family property, which is surrounded by a nature reserve.
For several years now, As Pontis Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil has been winning top awards in international competitions. In both 2014 and 2015 it won Gold at the New York International Olive Oil Competition. It was also a finalist in one of the toughest olive oil competitions in the world: The Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil in Spain 2015, sponsored by the Spanish Minister of Agriculture. This competition is a blind format with samples taken from numbered 20,000 liter vats, and it is purely the taste of the oil that is judged.
