An Italian Take on Fruitcake
A traditional Christmas confection from the Tuscan city of Siena, panforte is a dense cake, much like fruitcake, made with fruit, nuts and spices. This Panforte Bianco, or white panforte, from Pasticceria Mariuccia is made with candied orange, candied citron, honey, almonds and a secret blend of spices and dusted with powdered sugar. Mild flavored and light, Panforte Bianco is a nice way to finish a big holiday meal. Cut the panforte disk into small wedges and serve with coffee or sweet dessert wine.
