Two wonderful regional treats come together in this indulgent confection from France. A ribbon of rich, sweet, salted caramel from Brittany runs through the middle of a bar of traditional almond nougat from Provence. A bite of this French candy bar begins with almonds enveloped in a soft, creamy nougat scented with vanilla and orange blossom honey. Next is a sensuous taste of the silken salted butter caramel before it all melts together on the tongue in one delicious French kiss.
About the producer
Tucked in the village of Montélimar, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France, Suprem’Nougat G. Savin is the picture of small-batch artisan confection making. Husband-and-wife Georges and Simone Savin purchased the confectionery in 1957, eventually selling the business to their children who continue to operate it today alongside their own children. Run by just 15 employees, Suprem’Nougat G. Savin uses traditional techniques and tools to make everything by hand in miniscule 300-pound batches (tiny compared to industrial output).
I enjoyed the bar that I was given for Christmas, so much, I bought several bars for myself as a treat!
Everything was perfect not too soft, nor too hard, same thing for the sweetness. The nuts were tasty and plentiful. I ate both bars immediately.
