We love adding these single-origin extra intense semisweet chocolate chips to cookies, muffins and pound cakes to take our everyday baking up a notch. Dairy-free and rich with 55% West African cocoa, these chips deliver the bold chocolatey flavor we’re looking for and hold their shape after baking. Akoma means “heart" in Adinkra, the symbol-based language of the Ashanti people native to modern-day Ghana. The name is a nod to the region from where this cocoa is certified fair-trade sourced, but also to love, unity and resilience.
About the producer
When Etienne Guittard was lured from France to California hoping to strike it rich during the Gold Rush, he soon discovered he possessed something more valuable than gold—chocolate from his uncle’s factory. Realizing its popularity among the miners, he returned to France to hone his craft and in 1868, journeyed back to San Francisco to open Guittard Chocolate. Today, Guittard is known for their exacting standards, working with small farms to carefully select the best cocoa and customize blends to make sure only the best ends up in your kitchen.
