Whole Grain Pasta from Abruzzo, Italy

Rustichella d'Abruzzo Whole Wheat Penne Rigate is made from stone-ground whole wheat containing a very high percentage of bran, resulting in whole wheat pasta with wonderful bite. Penne rigate are the pointed tubes with ridges on the outside, perfect for catching finely-gound meat or vegetables. We love the nutty flavor of these whole grain noodles with mushroom sauce and in comforting baked pasta dishes like whole wheat mac and cheese. These hearty penne are also great in pasta salad.

About the Producer:
In 1929, Gaetano Sergiacomo started making rustic pasta using the whole wheat flour produced at his family’s stone mill in the small town of Penne in Abruzzo. In 1981, his daughter, Nicolina Peduzzi, decided to revive the pastificio (pasta factory), naming the new product line Rustichella d’Abruzzo. Soon after, Nicolina’s adult children Gianluigi and Stefania joined the family business, and within a few years, the small pastificio had grown into one of the most extensive artisanal pasta lines in Italy. Today, Rustichella d’Abruzzo offers a diverse selection of pasta, pasta sauce, holiday goods and more.

excellent whole wheat pasta

The problem with whole wheat pasta is that it can seem heavy and overpower the sauce. This pasta does not overdo it. i consider it an excellent (and healthier) alternative to their normal semolina pasta. Rustichella pastas are more expensive but much better than other dried pastas that I have had.
