Sun-Dried Tomato & Basil Pesto from Basilicata, Italy
When you open a jar of Masseria Mirogallo's Mediterranean Pesto, you can almost smell the southern Italian air. This estate-made sauce is a simple, classic combination of 4 ingredients: basil, sun-dried tomatoes, Italian extra virgin olive oil and salt (no preservatives here).
Unlike Ligurian Pesto alla Genovese and Sicilian Pesto alla Trapanese, Masseria Mirogallo's Mediterranean Pesto is not made with any cheese or nuts, allowing the estate-grown produce to take center stage. The pesto is deep and nuanced from the oil-cured tomatoes with a bright herbaceous flavor from the basil and just the right amount of salt.
How to use
Masseria Mirogallo's Mediterranean Pesto is beautiful tossed with pasta, but we love taking it beyond the pasta bowl. Slather on sandwiches, combine equal parts pesto and extra virgin olive oil for a quick marinade or add a spoonful to a simple red wine vinaigrette and drizzle over grilled vegetables (try it on top of flame-kissed slices of eggplant and summer squash).
About the producer
The Belfiore family farm, known as Masseria Mirogallo, sits on 70 acres of land in the southern Italian region of Basilicata. The family specializes in cultivating heirloom vegetables, from which they handcraft exceptional pantry preserves—bright tomato sauces, sun-dried tomatoes packed in extra virgin olive oil and hand-peeled artichoke hearts.
Everything Masseria Mirogallo puts in a jar—from vine-ripened tomatoes to sun-sweet peppers and artichokes—comes from their fields and is processed on-site, often mere minutes after being picked (which means you can open peak-season flavor with a simple twist of a lid).

This is a delicious spread made mostly with sun-dried tomatoes and olive oil, and some basil leaves. No cheese, no pine nuts (or any nuts). Perfect for bruschetta or just on crusty toast. There do not seem to be olives in it, though the color is rather dark. Not too spicy but definitely tasty and well balanced.
